This 1,000-square-foot house on the tropical island of Bali, Indonesia, might not have a ton of space, but it makes up for it with some striking features.
Architect Alexis Dornier designed the one-bedroom home, dubbed River Studio, on a narrow 26-foot-wide plot of land. It features an open-plan living room and a second-story bedroom suite cantilevered over the driveway.
Everything is tucked in under a dramatic saddle roof, which rises to an A-frame tip and stretches nearly all the way down to the ground, creating a tent-like effect. The large overhang creates privacy while shading the interior from excessive sun.
The soaring main living area features a wall of glass that leads out onto a deck with a narrow pool and plenty of lush plants filling the backyard. Back inside, a winding staircase leads to the upstairs bedroom upstairs, which is also enclosed by a glass wall offering a great vantage point for taking in the pool, roof, and greenery.
